Project Overview: Removing a 35,000-Gallon In-ground Pool and Restoring the Backyard

The existing property contained an approximately 35,000-gallon gunite swimming pool with a deep end measuring approximately 10 feet.

The homeowner wanted the in-ground pool removed and the backyard restored to create a more open and usable lawn area.

ES Excavation obtained the required permits from Aston Township and prepared the residential site for demolition.

Access to the backyard required temporarily removing a 6-foot vinyl fence and pruning existing bushes so excavation equipment could reach the pool area.

Pool Demolition & Site Access

Using an excavator equipped with a hydraulic hammer, ES Excavation broke up the gunite pool bottom and demolished the side walls to approximately 3 feet below finished grade. The surrounding concrete pool deck was also demolished.

The broken concrete deck and pool demolition material were placed within the pool cavity as part of the approved demolition and backfill process.

Backfilling, Grading & Lawn Restoration

After demolition was complete, the remaining pool cavity was backfilled with fill dirt. The surface was then topped with topsoil and graded to blend into the surrounding backyard.

The finished lawn area was seeded and covered with hay to begin the final restoration process.

Concrete Sidewalk Replacement & Final Site Restoration

As part of the project, ES Excavation also demolished and replaced an existing concrete sidewalk near the home.

After the major site work was complete, the temporary access area was restored and the 6-foot vinyl fence was replaced.

The completed project converted the former pool area into a restored backyard while also leaving the property access and sidewalk work finished as part of the overall project.

Results

The completed project transformed a large, approximately 35,000-gallon in-ground gunite pool into usable backyard space.

ES Excavation handled the demolition, pool-deck removal, backfill, grading, lawn restoration, access work, permitting coordination, and concrete sidewalk replacement as one coordinated residential site project.
